Ahmad Hayat Moghaddam, the deputy chairman of the National Security Committee in the Iranian parliament, announced on Tuesday that Iraq, India, China and Qatar are exempt from traffic restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, and that ships from these countries can cross the waterway freely.

Hayat Moghaddam said during a meeting to discuss economic and security conditions: “We have currently exempted four countries, namely India, China, Iraq and Qatar, from the restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the ships of these countries move freely, and the Americans do not interfere with them either,” according to Iranian media.

He pointed out that Iran does not impose transit fees on Qatar in the Strait of Hormuz.

Regarding the reasons for these exceptions, the Vice Chairman of the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament explained: “We make deals, and each of these exceptions has a specific reason.”

He added that the exclusion of India was intended to allow for the import of medicines into Iran, while the decision to exclude China was made in order to benefit from its political support.
