Member of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, confirmed today, Sunday, that al-Halbousi’s visit to Washington is personal and raises questions about its agenda.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency that “Al-Halbousi’s visit to Washington is not an official visit and did not take place with the knowledge of the Iraqi government or the approval of the Prime Minister, which reinforces doubts about it being of a personal nature far from the official frameworks.”
He added that “Al-Halbousi’s visit addressed many sensitive files, including the new Middle East project that the United States is working on, which includes settling Palestinians in the Anbar desert and establishing what is known as the “Sunni region.”
He explained that “these issues that were leaked from some of Halbousi’s sessions after his return from Washington indicate that his visit carries agendas that are not in line with Iraqi national interests.”
He pointed out that “Al-Halbousi did not present any clear work program for his visit, which reflects the lack of coordination with the Iraqi government,” indicating that “if the visit was official, it would have been with the approval of the Prime Minister and within a declared agenda that represents Iraq’s official vision towards regional and international files.”
