A government source revealed on Sunday that the Minister of Interior will discuss four key issues during his first visit to Kirkuk, indicating that the visit is expected to result in a number of direct decisions.
The source explained to Al-Maalomah that “Minister of Interior Yasser al-Maliki and senior ministry officers arrived in Kirkuk and held extensive meetings with the local government and its council, in the presence of local leaders.” The source noted that “this is the first visit of its kind since al-Maliki assumed his duties as Minister of Interior.”
The source further stated that “four issues are at the forefront of al-Maliki’s concerns during his visit to Kirkuk: the nature of the new deployment plan, particularly in the southwestern areas of the province, including Hawija; a field assessment of the security situation in certain areas through direct visits; a review of how to support security formations and agencies in conjunction with the local government; and listening to the opinions of political figures across the spectrum.” The source emphasized that “Kirkuk’s security is of paramount importance to the federal government, especially given the repeated attacks on security checkpoints in recent weeks, which have resulted in casualties.”
The source confirmed that “the visit is expected to result in a number of decisions being made directly, particularly regarding strengthening security belts around the liberated areas.”
