The global cryptocurrency market suffered losses exceeding $300 billion in market value during October 2026, amid a wave of declines affecting the most prominent digital currencies, most notably Bitcoin and Ethereum, with increasing selling pressure and liquidation of trading positions.

According to data published by platforms specializing in digital asset markets on Sunday, the total market value of cryptocurrencies fell by about $300 billion to $340 billion last month, marking its first monthly loss in four months.

Data from the TokenPost platform showed that the market value fell from about $2.94 trillion at the beginning of October to $2.60 trillion at the end of it, a decline of 11.6%, while the AMBCrypto platform estimated the size of the losses at about $300 billion.

The losses also affected Bitcoin, the world’s largest currency by market capitalization, which fell by about 7.3% during October, while Ethereum recorded a more severe decline of 16.3%, reflecting the widening downward trend in the digital asset market.

According to the data, seven major trading platforms saw forced liquidations of futures positions worth more than $6.2 billion during the month, including about $4.27 billion for buy positions and $1.95 billion for sell positions, indicating the extent of the volatility experienced by traders.

These losses coincided with turmoil in the cryptocurrency markets in the last days of October, with Bitcoin falling to its lowest level in six weeks after Binance announced a security issue, while Ethereum dropped to its lowest level in two months, according to Reuters.
