Al-Surji - The SOMO agreement ends the salary crisis for employees in the Kurdistan RegionInformation/Baghdad…
Ghiath al-Surji, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), confirmed the stability of the process of sending employee salaries from Baghdad to the Kurdistan Region following the agreement to export the region’s oil through the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO).
Al-Surji told Al-Maalouma, “There has been clear stability in the process of sending salaries from Baghdad to Kurdistan for nearly a year, after the significant disruptions witnessed in the previous period.”
He added, “Salaries have varied between employees in the provinces and the region, with clear differences in salary increases and decreases from one employee to another across different specializations, job grades, and even security personnel.” He pointed out that “the stability of salary payments came after the agreement to hand over the oil file to SOMO.”
He explained that “for the past two years, only 10 salaries were sent annually, but the process has stabilized after the agreement to export oil through SOMO, which resolved the issue of salary payments between Baghdad and Erbil.”
