Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed on Tuesday that the current government headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has not made progress in the field of combating corruption, rationalizing departments and controlling them, despite its general orientation towards reform, as stated in its government program voted on by Parliament.
Al-Kadhimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Unfortunately, many executive officials continue to use their previous methods despite the Prime Minister’s interference in the details of those departments, as the audio leak of the Director of the Tax Authority indicates the extent of corruption in the facilities of institutions that generate money for the state treasury, including the Tax Authority, the Customs Authority, the Ministry of Communications, the Communications and Media Authority, and other departments that collect money.”
He added, “The Prime Minister, as the first official, must pay serious attention and give priority to automating these departments, as they constitute a source of financial revenues, and according to estimates, they reach more than 30 trillion dinars annually, and they can cover more than half of the salaries paid by the state.”
He pointed out that “the government has made great strides in providing services, but it has not yet made progress in combating corruption, rationalizing departments and controlling them, despite its general orientation towards reform, as it stated in its government program that was voted on by Parliament.”
Yesterday, Monday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed an investigation into the Director of the Tax Authority due to an audio recording.
