A source reveals to Shafaq News the results of 90 percent of the special vote in the Kurdistan electionsShafaq News/ An informed source reported on Saturday that the Kurdistan Democratic Party won the special vote for the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, with a number of votes reaching nearly 83 thousand votes.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, “The results of the special vote for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, which started yesterday, Friday, in the region’s governorates and the rest of the centers in a number of governorates, reached 90 percent.”

The source pointed out that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party came first in the results with 82,979 votes, followed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan with 51,345 votes, then the New Generation with 11,207 votes.”

According to the source, the Islamic Union obtained 2,885 votes, the Al-Mawqif Party obtained 2,492 votes, the Justice Group obtained 2,391 votes, the People’s Front obtained 2,110 votes, and the Change Movement obtained 705 votes.

Yesterday morning, Friday, the Independent High Electoral Commission opened the doors of the polling stations to receive members of the Peshmerga forces and the internal security forces to cast their votes on the special voting day for the elections of the Kurdistan Parliament – Iraq in its sixth session.

The voting process began in 165 polling stations at 7:00 a.m. and ended at 6:00 p.m., according to the time set by the Election Commission.

1091 candidates of both genders are competing in the Kurdistan Region for 100 seats, five of which are a “quota” for components after there were 11 seats, which were reduced by a decision of the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq).

The number of seats allocated to women according to the electoral law must be at least 30 seats.

The total number of voters in the Kurdistan Region is 2,899,578 voters, 215,960 of whom are eligible to vote in the special ballot, while the remaining 2,683,618 voters will vote in the general ballot tomorrow, Sunday.
