A member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee revealed the recovery of large amounts of stolen money from the secretariats of the Tax Authority, which was known as the “theft of the century.”
Hadi Al-Salami said in a press interview, “What was rumored about recovering huge amounts of money from the tax accounts secretariats is reality.”
He stressed, “The concerned authorities, in cooperation with the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, managed to recover tens of billions of these amounts from various parties.”
Al-Salami added, “The committee continues its follow-ups and confirms that it will never leave this file.”
He noted that “the investigations revealed the existence of a number of political parties and parties hiding behind figures whose involvement in the theft has been proven.”
It is noteworthy that last October witnessed the disclosure of a huge embezzlement of trust funds in the General Tax Authority for the amount of 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars (two and a half billion US dollars), and according to the Integrity Commission, the case is still under investigation to reach all those involved in it.
Judicial arrest warrants were also issued against a number of parties to the case, most notably the director of the “Creators” company, Nour Zuhair Al-Muzaffar.
