The former head of the Integrity Commission, Musa Faraj, praised, on Thursday, the steps of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani regarding the recovery of looted and smuggled funds abroad, noting that what was recovered in the last period was 197 million dollars out of a total of 500 billion smuggled.
Faraj said, in a televised interview, followed by Al-Malooma, that “out of 500 billion dollars that were smuggled abroad, only 197 million were recovered, and the government must be supported by all regulatory and financial agencies to return all the smuggled funds.”
He added, “The recently smuggled money was in four files, which are oil smuggling, theft of the century, currency auction, and manipulation of projects and shares of the corrupt.”
Faraj pointed out that “restoring international and societal confidence needs to recover the money, and the prime minister’s step to return the looted funds is very successful, and all requirements must be provided to move forward in this way,” stressing that “the Sudanese start to combat corruption is good and successful, and exceptional laws must be enacted to deter the corrupt.”
