Independent MP Basem Khashan called on Thursday the major Shiite blocs to reconsider their alliances with Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, while considering that the formation of a new Sunni political front against Al-Halbousi is a “late” step.
Khashan said, “The step to form a new Sunni political front came late and was supposed to be taken from a previous period, in order to remove Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi from the political scene.”

He added, “The Speaker of Parliament abused the Iraqi people and the Sunni component in particular, as he violated the constitution and committed serious financial violations that required him to be imprisoned for a long time.”

Khashan called on the Shiite blocs to “restore their accounts in the case of their support for Muhammad Al-Halbousi and put him in his rightful place because he offended them, the constitution and the state.”

Informed sources revealed that a meeting was held on Wednesday evening in the home of businessman Khamis Al-Khanjar, which included leaders and representatives of the year, in preparation for the official announcement of the “liberated cities” coalition.

The Alliance of Iraqi Forces led by al-Halbousi was the largest Sunni bloc in Parliament before the formation of the new coalition. He held about 40 seats out of 329 seats in Parliament.
