The spokesman for the local Anbar government, Muayad al-Dulaimi, confirmed on Sunday that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s visit to the province carries political, economic and service-related importance, expressing his hope that it will contribute to resolving a number of outstanding issues, most notably financial entitlements and projects that have been stalled for years.
Al-Dulaimi told Shafaq News Agency that the visit includes laying the foundation stone for the distribution of 50,000 residential plots in Anbar, as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to distribute one million plots of land throughout Iraq, as well as inspecting the Anbar Combined Cycle Power Plant.
He added that the visit’s agenda includes discussing several issues, most notably the province’s share of the federal budget, which has been suspended for more than a year, and the revenues from border crossings and Anbar’s 50% share of them, in addition to compensation amounts for demolished houses and the entitlements of the families of martyrs and the wounded.
He pointed out that the province includes hundreds of stalled and delayed projects, most notably Anbar International Airport and Anbar International Stadium, as well as hospitals and important investment and service projects, stressing that releasing the necessary financial allocations would stimulate the local economy, revive investment activity, and provide job opportunities.
Al-Dulaimi added that the local government hopes that the visit will result in practical decisions that will ensure the funding of stalled projects and the resumption of work on them as quickly as possible, in order to meet the aspirations of citizens and contribute to improving the service and economic situation of the governorate.
Ali al-Zaidi arrived in Anbar province earlier on Sunday to launch the implementation of the project for one million residential plots (Homeland Initiative), with (50) thousand plots representing the province’s share of the initiative. He also reviewed the progress of the implementation work at the site of the new administrative city in Anbar province, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency.
