The Information Agency / Baghdad –
Member of Parliament, Munther al-Shammari, confirmed on Sunday that the government has failed to fulfill its official promise to send the 2027 budget schedules to Parliament last week, warning that continued delays could affect the timing of its discussion and approval.
Al-Shammari told the Information Agency, “The al-Zaidi government promised to send the 2027 annual budget last week for review and to finalize its items in preparation for its approval.” He added, “Parliament was surprised by the government’s delay without any stated reasons or justifications.”
He further stated, “Parliament is about to begin its second legislative recess next week, and if the schedules and items are not received before then, the budget’s finalization and approval will certainly be delayed until after next year.”
Al-Shammari urged the government to “expedite the submission of the annual budget before Parliament goes into recess,” emphasizing that “its arrival will allow for immediate parliamentary action to cut short the recess and fully dedicate itself to studying and discussing the budget items, ultimately leading to its finalization in Parliament.”
It is worth noting that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the relevant government agencies had previously made official commitments to adhere to the constitutional deadlines for submitting the federal budget schedules for the fiscal year 2027.
