Sunday, an informed political source revealed that the caretaker prime minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and his advisory team had smuggled money out of Iraq.
The source said in a statement to “Al-Maalouma”, that “advisers of the Prime Minister of the caretaker government have carried out major smuggling operations of Iraqi funds during the past three years to their accounts in the UAE and a number of European countries.”
He pointed out that “the phenomenon of looting of public funds continues, the latest of which is the theft of two and a half billion dollars from the trusts deposited with the State Tax Authority of the Ministry of Finance.”
He pointed out that “Al-Kazemi’s government is the worst ever, in terms of financial and administrative corruption and billions that are wasted in customs, taxes, finance and other vital sectors in the country.”
The judicial authorities have opened an investigation into the theft of $2.5 billion from the funds of the Tax Authority’s secretariats at the Rafidain Governmental Bank in Baghdad.
