Informed sources revealed, on Monday, that the representatives of the Progress Party headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi within the liberated areas expressed their concern over calls to change the Iraqi constitution adopted by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr.
The sources said in an interview with “The Information”, that “deputies of the Sovereignty Alliance recently held a meeting in Baghdad to discuss the latest developments in the Iraqi scene in light of what is happening in Al-Khadra, and calls for changing the Iraqi constitution were discussed.”
The sources added, “The Sovereignty’s representatives expressed their deep concern about the repercussions of changing the constitution, especially Article 140 of it, which talks about the disputed areas between Arabs and Kurds, which constitute about 30% of the Sunni deputies in Parliament at the present time, and that it may cause great strife and the loss of the Kurdish ally.” to Barzani.
She pointed out that “Al-Halbousi’s deputies stressed the need to keep the situation as it is in the file of the constitution, especially since the public scene does not allow such plots that may lead to stirring up the situation in large and sprawling cities, whether in Diyala, Salah al-Din or Mosul due to differences over Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution.” Finished/ 25 F
