Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that the dispute with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office was “regrettable and it is time to correct things.”
Zelensky’s comments came hours after the White House announced it was halting military aid to Ukraine.
“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to go… Unfortunately, it happened that way. It’s time to fix things. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive,” Zelensky said on X.
“Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve lasting peace. No one wants peace more than the Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to achieve lasting peace,” he added.
He explained that Ukraine is ready to agree to “a truce in the air, a ban on missiles and drones, a cessation of shelling of energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure, and an immediate truce at sea, if Russia does the same.”
Zelensky said he wanted to “make things right” with Donald Trump and work under the US president’s “strong leadership” to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine.
A clash broke out between Zelensky, Trump and his deputy, Jay D. Vance, over Washington’s position on the war between Russia and Ukraine in the Oval Office on Friday.
