Head of the Wujoud Movement, Mohammed Sharif, confirmed on Monday that America is exerting pressure on Iraq in order to secure the presence of its forces in military bases and achieve its goals without any interference or oversight from the Iraqi side.
Sharif told Al-Maalouma, “America moved its pawns towards Iraq in order to provide guarantees and concessions with the aim of achieving its interests in Iraq and the region and preserving its bases on Iraqi soil.”
He added, “The American side pressured the Iraqi government with the aim of ensuring that the military bases controlled by American forces inside Iraq would not be touched, and to prevent any attempt to target them by the resistance factions.”
He explained that “Washington seeks to ensure the presence of its forces inside Iraqi territory and to agree with Baghdad to make these bases permanent, so that its forces can carry out their work with ease and away from any pressure or oversight from the Iraqi side, meaning that they are independent in their movements, decisions and the operations they carry out.”
