On Sunday, MP Ikhlas al-Dulaimi, from the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc, revealed the existence of three types of border crossings in the Kurdistan Region, stressing that the issue is raised during negotiations and meetings between representatives of the regional government and the federal government.

Al-Dulaimi told Shafaq News Agency that “the first type consists of the officially registered and recognized outlets with the federal government, and their number is four outlets, and their financial revenues go to the federal government.”

She added that “there are four other border crossings registered with the Kurdistan Region, but they are not registered with the federal government, and a request has been submitted to have them officially approved and registered.”

She explained that a committee from the federal government, the Border Ports Authority and Customs visited these four ports, conducted a field survey of the border strip, and then prepared a recommendation that was submitted to the Ministerial Council for Economy for voting and official adoption.

Al-Dulaimi added that the third type consists of border crossings that are not registered with the regional and federal governments, noting that their numbers are large and they are not recognized.

She pointed out that the relevant authorities in the region addressed the federal government in an official letter demanding the closure of those crossings, which she described as having become a major problem, affecting the economy of the region and the federal governorates.
