Al-Baldawi told Shafaq News Agency, “There is a political disagreement and lack of agreement on a specific person to be elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the continuation of the disagreements will postpone the president’s election session until further notice.”

He added, “There is no agreement on a single candidate to assume the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the bloc concerned with nominating the alternative presented not one candidate, but six candidates, and it is possible that the number of candidates will increase in tomorrow’s session, Wednesday.”

Al-Baldawi stated that “the names of the proposed candidates for presidency of the House of Representatives have not changed yet. They are: Salem Al-Issawi, Shaalan Al-Karim, Abdul Karim Abtan, and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and these four candidates have begun to move on the political blocs to obtain their support in electing the president.”

Yesterday, Monday, the “Taqaddum” Party, headed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives who was removed by a judicial decision, Muhammad al-Halbousi, suggested boycotting the election session for the new Speaker of Parliament, stressing that there is no agreement between the political blocs yet on an alternative candidate.

Al-Alawi stated, “The position of Parliament Speaker is the right of the (Taqadum) Party and will remain our share. We also believe that the decision to choose the Speaker of Parliament will be after the provincial council elections, and Wednesday’s session may be postponed again until further notice, especially since the (Taqaddum) Party is currently busy.” “Only the election file.”

He stated that “all data and information indicate that the election of the new speaker of parliament will take place after the provincial council elections, and there is difficulty holding any session currently due to the legislative recess and the busyness of representatives and blocs in propaganda campaigns, especially with the elections approaching.”

For his part; The representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Bloc, Sabah Sobhi, told Shafaq News Agency that the Sunni blocs submitted a request to the Presidency of the House of Representatives to hold an emergency session on Tuesday to elect a new speaker of the House.

He explained that the Council Presidency did not announce its position and did not officially set a date for electing a Council President.

The Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives decided to officially terminate the membership of Council Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, based on the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, as of the fourteenth of November 2023.
