Foreign Ministry - Winning UNESCO membership is an achievement that restores the worlds confidence to IraqThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, on Thursday, that Iraq’s victory as a member of the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is an achievement that restores the world’s confidence to Iraq.

The ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, said in a press statement, “With the aim of strengthening Iraq’s position in international forums, and within effective diplomacy at the multilateral level, Iraq won membership in the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the period (2023-2027).” During the elections held at the organization’s headquarters in Paris on Wednesday, 11/15/2023, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the organization’s General Conference, held for the period 7-11/22/2023.

He added, “This achievement is added to the series of successes that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked to devote to restoring national effectiveness in the most influential international forums.”

He continued, “This achievement restores to Iraq the confidence of the world, in its status, its cultural gains, and its cultural and educational heritage. Winning membership in the organization’s Executive Council comes after nearly three decades, so that this event is a witness to Iraq’s qualitative entitlement in the fields of education, science, and culture.”

He continued, “While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates the support of brotherly and friendly countries for membership in the Executive Council of UNESCO, the Ministry confirms that obtaining this membership is a victory for all countries and nations of the world, and it is a complement to the process that Iraq seeks to enhance its prominent role at the Arab, Islamic and global levels.”

He concluded by saying, “We congratulate the brotherly and friendly countries for winning membership in the Executive Council and other committees of UNESCO, and we call on them to collective and productive work to promote noble human values ​​for the good of all peoples.”
