The Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee commented, today, Wednesday, on the decision to allow America to pay Iraq’s debts to Iran as a result of importing natural gas, while Washington was accused of being the “main reason” behind the electricity crisis in Iraq, stressing that the latter was forced to take such a decision.
A member of the committee, Kazem Al-Tooki, said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, that “the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, when he signed the barter of black oil for natural gas with Iran, he hit the American decision and bypassed Washington’s pressure.”
He added, “America has become in front of a fait accompli, especially when the US government spokesman asked about a swap between Iraq and Iran. He was unable to answer at the time,” pointing out that “Washington was portraying the Iraqi people that Iran is the main reason behind the exacerbation of the electricity crisis.”
A member of the Oil Committee explained, “The recent Iraqi decision revealed the papers and exposed America as being the main reason behind the disruption of electric power, which forced it to agree to pay Iraq’s debts to Iran within three months, which is the period during which Iraq needs gas to pass the heat wave.”
Earlier in the day, the British Reuters news agency announced that America had agreed to allow Iraq to pay gas debts to Iran within a period of three months, but the Ministry of Electricity did not confirm the news.
