On Wednesday, the leader of the State of Law coalition, Jassem Muhammad Jaafar, called on the government to expedite the implementation of Parliament’s decision regarding the removal of foreign forces from Iraq, indicating that delaying the resolution of the file harms Iraqi national security.
Jassim said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The implementation of the Iraqi parliament’s decision regarding the exit of the US forces is still weak and almost absent, although delaying this file has consequences that affect national security.”
He added, “It is self-evident that the presence of any foreign military forces in any country constitutes a state of instability and a lack of national sovereignty. Despite this, the issue of removing foreign forces from Iraq is still weak.”
He pointed out that “the US bases in Iraq still exist and contain many combat military capabilities, despite statements indicating that the presence is advisory.”
Regarding the Turkish presence, Jassem indicated that “the presence of the Turkish forces and their extension inside Iraqi territory also exists, and there is no pressure or activation to expel them,” noting that “the exit of the Turkish forces and the Workers’ Party is linked to national and regional interests.”
