The security expert, Sabah Al-Akeli, considered, on Thursday, the recent suspicious movements of the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, as part of her efforts to restore the leadership of Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi, indicating that these moves come to block the way for efforts to hold him accountable in court on charges of corruption.
Al-Ugaili said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, that “the role played by the US ambassador in Baghdad, Alina Romansky, is inconsistent with international diplomatic norms, as she interferes with all internal aspects of government and politics by conducting several meetings with Iraqi politicians.”
He added that “the moves taken by Romansky recently to restore the strength and dominance that al-Halbousi lost towards his opponents, especially from the Sunni component,” noting that “American support for al-Halbousi as one of the obedient to the US administration in implementing its agenda in Iraq.”
Al-Agaili called on “the Security, Defense and Foreign Affairs Committees to host the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the concerned security authorities for the purpose of stopping these moves as blatant interference in internal affairs, as well as their departure from the duties of diplomatic ambassadors.”
The representative of the Al-Fateh Parliamentary Alliance, Ali Turki, confirmed in a previous statement to Al-Maalouma, that “the US administration is still, at all levels, insisting on interfering in Iraqi affairs through the statements of its ministers or the interventions of the US ambassador in Baghdad by holding meetings with various executive and political figures.” Political
