Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Regional Government announced, on Wednesday, that its President, Masrour Barzani, and the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, agreed to resolve differences and outstanding issues, including the financial budget for the year 2023 and the oil and gas law, in accordance with the country’s permanent constitution.
Masrour Barzani had arrived earlier this morning in the capital, Baghdad, and upon his arrival, he met with Muhammad Shayaa Al-Sudani, where the meeting reviewed the most important files at the national level, and ways of integration in the work of the federal government and the regional government in order to provide the best services to citizens in all parts and governorates of Iraq. According to a statement issued by the media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister.
A statement issued by the regional government stated, “There was a mutual affirmation of the importance of resolving problems between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government on the basis of the constitution and the ministerial platform.”
The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government indicated that “there are many ways to solve problems if there is an intention in this regard,” and said: “We have the agreement of the political parties and the government ministerial platform to solve these outstanding problems.”
For his part, the Federal Prime Minister reaffirmed the strong desire to solve problems between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, in the interest of all Iraqi citizens.
The discussions mainly included the ongoing preparations regarding the draft federal budget law for the year 2023, and the details related to the share of the Kurdistan Region and its financial dues from the federal budget.
They also discussed the necessary steps to prepare a draft oil and gas law, according to what was stated in the political agreement of the parties that formed the government and the ministerial program.
The two sides agreed on the need to solve problems and reach a solution for each of the two files related to the general budget and oil and gas under the umbrella of the constitution.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of constitutional Article 140, guaranteeing the constitutional rights of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces as they are part of the Iraqi federal defense system, as well as the implementation of the Sinjar Agreement, according to the regional government’s statement.
