Today, Tuesday, the State of Law Coalition warned against the movements of the US ambassador and the meetings she holds with political and societal figures and civil organizations, describing these moves as harming the Iraqi “national security”.

The leader of the coalition, Abbas al-Maliki, said, in an interview with the information agency, that “the American ambassador to Iraq acts as if she is a high representative, receiving political and non-political personalities, and all doors, including social and political ones, are open to this ambassador, who believes that she is the ultimate matter in the country.”

He added, “The Prime Minister’s directives in this regard emphasize the importance of foreign diplomats performing their role, which is documented by international norms and traditions, and is summarized in meetings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Iraqi government and within the government’s diplomatic channels concerned with prior procedures.”

And Al-Maliki indicated that “the US ambassador must abide by international diplomatic principles that require respect for the sovereignty of the country in which she is and the laws in force and directives issued by her,” noting that “the insistence of the US ambassador and some ambassadors to pursue a policy of interference in Iraqi affairs through holding community meetings with organizations politicians and active figures in society.

The leader in the State of Law explained, “These moves hide behind them motives that harm national security as a breach of Iraqi society, and makes the embassies that play this role as if they are carrying out an organizing process inside the country that moves it and benefits from it at some point in a specific agenda.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, decided to cancel the visits of ambassadors and foreign missions to political parties and community organizations and limit them to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iraqi government only.
