The United States renews its support for the prospective Iraqi government headed by Al-SudaniShafaq News/ The Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, affirmed on Tuesday the desire of the next government to strengthen security, economic, cultural and scientific relations with the United States of America.

In a statement received by Shafaq News, Al-Sudani’s media office said that the latter received the American ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, and the commander of the international coalition forces, General Matthew McFarlane and the accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed the continuation of security cooperation and coordination between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism within the framework of advice and training, in a manner that preserves Iraq’s sovereignty and helps develop the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces.

During the meeting, Al-Sudani said that maintaining security is the mainstay of any economic reform, expressing the desire of the future government to strengthen the relationship with the United States of America, in addition to security cooperation, to include economic, cultural, scientific and other aspects.

For her part, the US ambassador and her accompanying delegation renewed her country’s support for the new Iraqi government, and its aspiration to expand bilateral cooperation frameworks with Iraq.

In turn, General MacFarlane gave a briefing on military cooperation with Iraq, and stressed the importance of strengthening the trusted partnership between the two sides.
