The Sadrist bloc files a lawsuit against the three presidencies and demands the dissolution of ParliamentShafaq News/ The Secretary-General of the Sadrist bloc, Nassar al-Rubaie, submitted a lawsuit to the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) against the three presidencies, calling at the same time to dissolve the Iraqi parliament, in response to the call of the movement’s leader Muqtada al-Sadr.

The lawsuit filed by Al-Rubaie included the ruling to dissolve the Iraqi parliament in its current session, and to oblige the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, to set a date for holding legislative elections in accordance with the provisions of Article (64/second) of the Iraqi constitution.

This lawsuit comes at a time when the Supreme Judicial Council confirmed, earlier this morning, that it was not within its authority to dissolve the Iraqi parliament, in response to the request of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr in this regard.

On Wednesday, August 10, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, asked the judicial authorities to work on dissolving the Iraqi parliament within a maximum period of the end of next week, urging at the same time the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, to set a date for early legislative elections in country.
