The office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces decided to dismiss four officers in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior from their positions, directing the formation of an investigative council against them for their negligence and shortcomings in their security duties, and for allowing members of the Popular Mobilization Forces to insult the flag of the United States of America.

The document issued by the Secretariat of Administrative Affairs and Follow-up in the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and signed by the Director of the Office, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, included directives from the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to dismiss the following: Brigadier General Dawood Salman Dawood, Commander of the Second Security Zone; Brigadier General Riyad Jizan Rasen Salloum, an officer at the Baghdad Rusafa Police Command Headquarters; Colonel Dhu Al-Fiqar Awda Kitab, Commander of the Fifth Baghdad Rusafa Emergency Regiment; and Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Saleh Mahdi, the regiment’s intelligence officer.

The document obtained by Shafaq News Agency explained that the decisions came as a result of the aforementioned officers’ negligence in their duties and allowing members of the Popular Mobilization Forces – during the Sovereignty Day parade – to insult the American flag, which harms international relations.

The Commander-in-Chief also instructed the Baghdad-Rusafa police to maintain a field presence and follow-up during demonstrations, celebrations, and events.

The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu’man, announced on October 4th the arrest of those involved in the transgression against the American flag during the Sovereignty Day celebration.
