Former MP, Bassem Al-Gharibawi, criticized on Wednesday the lack of government planning and poor management of the country’s economic and service sectors, stressing that the past periods witnessed the waste of huge sums of money on useless and stalled projects, in addition to some of them being subjected to looting and financial and administrative corruption.
Al-Gharibawi told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the past period witnessed the expenditure of enormous sums on projects lacking economic feasibility, in addition to the freezing and confiscation of other projects due to delays and negligence.” He attributed this decline to rampant corruption and the absence of sound administrative vision to protect these funds.
Al-Gharibawi added that “this deteriorating situation is a natural consequence of the lack of strategic plans built on sound scientific foundations, which is evident in prioritizing secondary projects over others of the highest priority.” He pointed to “the state’s lack of a clear governmental program that implements projects according to their importance and priorities.”
He warned that “the continuation of this administrative chaos will hinder any attempt to lift Iraq from its current situation and build genuine institutions.”
In the context of solutions, the former MP called on state institutions to change their approach and focus on national talents and expertise, expressing his regret over the policy of marginalization and exclusion that targets experts in favor of complete reliance on current consultants who have not delivered the desired results.
Al-Gharibawi concluded his statement by saying, “The root of the crisis lies in the state’s management mechanism and its disregard for scientific research, studies, and plans developed by experts and qualified professionals.”
