The Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, described on Thursday the delay in forming the new regional government as a “black mark” on the democratic process, warning that partners and the international community are beginning to lose hope in achieving this goal.
Talabani said in a press statement he made while at the Independent Raparin Administration that “the time has come to move forward with the formation of the new regional government without further delay,” noting that “the region’s friends in the international community have already begun to lose hope in the possibility of a resolution and the formation of the government.”
The Deputy Prime Minister revealed details of a meeting he had with a senior foreign official, saying: “Yesterday I met with a senior official from a friendly country, and his main question at the end of the meeting was about the reasons for the delay, which reflects how the delay has begun to turn into a black mark affecting the reputation of the region and its experience.”
Talabani concluded his statement by stressing the urgent need to overcome differences and expedite the formation of the new cabinet in order to meet the aspirations of citizens and address the existing challenges.
