The Iraqi dinar ranked second on the list of currencies that have declined the most against the US dollar since the beginning of 2026, with a decrease of 14.2%, according to data reported by Bloomberg, while the Libyan dinar topped the list with a decline of 15.6%.

Shafaq News Agency reviewed these data, which showed that the Turkish lira came in third place with a decrease of 13.3%, followed by the Ugandan shilling with a decrease of 12.7%, and then the Egyptian pound with a decrease of 11.6%.

The Ghanaian cedi fell by 10.3%, the Romanian leu by 8.6%, the Chilean peso by 8.3%, while the Polish zloty declined by 7.8%, the Indonesian rupiah by 7.5%, the Tanzanian shilling by 7.2%, and the Swedish krona by 6.9%.

The list also included the Moroccan dirham, the Philippine peso and the Sri Lankan rupee, each with a decline of 6.7%.

The Iranian rial was not included among the currencies mentioned in the list, despite the significant decline in the Iranian currency due to the repercussions of the war and the economic sanctions imposed on Tehran.

The decline of the Iraqi dinar comes in the wake of an official adjustment to the dollar exchange rate in Iraq this month, as the approved rate rose to 1,520 dinars per dollar, compared to the previous rate of 1,320 dinars, according to a decision by the Iraqi government.

This adjustment reflects the decrease in the value of the dinar against the dollar according to the new official rate, while the importance of monitoring the repercussions of exchange rate changes on import costs, local prices and purchasing power is highlighted.
