Youssef Khalaf, representative of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, confirmed on Thursday that digital transformation is one of the government’s reform tools for providing services to citizens.

In a speech during the Governance Forum, which was attended by a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency, Khalaf said that one of the goals of the new government is “the economic empowerment of the country. The government faces many challenges, and when identifying the challenges, solutions must be put in place and possibilities must be considered to reach the goal.”

He added that “digital transformation represents a rapid, technology-led step, and the transformation represents tools for reform for the government, decision-making, and the organization of services for citizens.”

He pointed out that “the addition of a ministry with a new character, namely the Ministry of Digital Economy and Governance, focuses on the philosophy of government and procedures, and we expect the issuance of an important document for the exchange of data between institutions under the auspices of the concept of digital sovereignty in Iraq, setting clear regulatory steps for all data and preserving citizens’ data.”

Khalaf added that “the Higher Digital Transformation Committee is developing a strategy in this regard, and the government is determined to show results, and the draft of the Digital Transformation in Iraq document has been completed for its release.”

He pointed out that “today we are witnessing a conflict between major countries to arm themselves with artificial intelligence, which is considered a very vital weapon for providing services in the public and private sectors.”
