Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi called on European companies on Thursday to take advantage of the investment opportunities available in Iraq, given the facilities provided by the government to investors, as well as the availability of labor and raw materials for many industries, noting that the Development Road project will represent a factor in strengthening economic relations between East and West.
This came, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office, received by Shafaq News Agency, during Al-Zaidi’s meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Clemens Smenter.
The statement added that the meeting discussed a number of issues, including the signing of a joint agreement between Iraq and the European Union in the field of investment, with the aim of attracting more European investments to Iraq, as well as discussing the participation of European companies in this year’s Baghdad International Fair.
According to the statement, Al-Zaydi stressed “the importance of Iraqi-European relations, especially in the economic aspect and the diversified investment sector, in addition to cooperation in the banking field and the promotion of trade.”
The statement noted that the European Union ambassador congratulated Al-Zidi on the completion of the cabinet formation and praised the steps and policies taken by the government in recent months, particularly in the area of economic reforms and strengthening partnerships with European countries following the Prime Minister’s successful visit to both France and Germany.
