Parliamentary calls to track corruption funds and recover those smuggled abroad

MP Ahmed Al-Shammari called for legislation to pursue and track funds recovered from corruption crimes, in addition to other laws to recover and retrieve funds in accordance with the “Where did you get this?” law and bribery crimes.
Al-Shammari told Al-Maalouma, “There are parliamentary demands and calls that emphasize the need to legislate a law to recover the proceeds of corruption, by activating the legal system for pursuing and recovering funds obtained from corruption crimes, whether they are inside Iraq or have been smuggled abroad.”
He added that “enacting such laws represents an important step to close the legal loopholes that hinder the recovery of public funds and to establish clear mechanisms for tracking funds and assets obtained from corruption crimes.”
He emphasized the importance of “enacting laws to combat corruption, including laws on recovering the proceeds of corruption and the ‘where did you get this money?’ law, as well as laws for prior oversight before bribery and corruption crimes occur.”
