MP Haider Ali confirmed on Tuesday that the allocation of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement post is subject to the criteria of electoral entitlement and parliamentary representation. He explained that the Christian “Soyana” bloc and its allies from other political groups are the most deserving of managing the ministry, according to the election results.
Ali told the Information Agency, “The parliamentary equation is clear and leaves no room for interpretation. The Soyana bloc holds three parliamentary seats, compared to two for the Babylon Movement. Furthermore, there is a parliamentary alliance and solidarity that includes the Faili Kurds, Yazidis, and other groups, bringing the total to five seats supporting this approach. This makes the ministry a clear and acquired entitlement for the parliamentary majority of these groups.”
He added, “Previous parliamentary sessions adopted the same principle, with the parties holding the most seats securing the ministerial portfolio. Therefore, the balances and the results of the ballot boxes must be respected without circumvention.” He pointed out that “the Ministry of Migration and Displacement is historically and rightfully linked to the issues of the various communities, specifically the Faili Kurds, who were a fundamental pillar in its establishment, tasked with addressing the files of displaced persons and past grievances.”
Ali explained that “the delay in finalizing the nomination stems from disagreements and widespread political interference from multiple parties seeking to influence the nomination process and impose their will outside the framework of electoral entitlement.” He emphasized that “adherence to this entitlement represents a defense of the rights of the various communities and a guarantee of their genuine and legitimate representation within the government cabinet.”
