The spokesperson for the “Reconstruction and Development” parliamentary bloc, Firas al-Muslawi, confirmed on Wednesday that the anticipated cabinet reshuffle will be limited to the creation of only one new ministry, with the proposed Ministry of Artificial Intelligence being scrapped. He also announced his bloc’s intention to attend Thursday’s session to vote on the nominees for deputy prime ministers. Al-Muslawi told the Information Agency that “Thursday’s session will see a vote on the creation of a Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities exclusively, after the proposal to establish a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence was canceled.” He explained that “the bloc’s representatives will attend the session to complete the vote on the tourism portfolio and approve the deputy prime ministers.”
He added that “the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities will be a productive ministry, generating revenue for the public treasury by revitalizing tourism in the country, in addition to its anticipated role in supporting sports tourism, cultural and artistic facilities and festivals to attract tourists and those interested from abroad.”
Regarding the behind-the-scenes details of the political agreement, the bloc’s spokesperson explained that “the Coordination Framework had previously rejected the creation of deputy prime minister positions, which delayed the completion of the cabinet.” He added, however, that “the sensitive security and political circumstances in the region necessitated resolving this issue and appointing permanent ministers, especially for the security portfolios currently being managed by acting ministers. This led the Framework and the other political forces to agree on four deputy prime ministers.”
Al-Muslawi clarified that “the offices of the deputy prime ministers will be located exclusively within the Cabinet building, and no new appointments will be made. Staff, security details, and administrative personnel will be drawn from the existing Cabinet staff to ensure no additional financial burdens are incurred.”
