The leader of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Uday Al-Khadran, revealed, on Thursday, that the volume of waste in the electrical linkage project with Saudi Arabia will reach 12 billion dollars.
Al-Khadran said in an interview with Al-Information, that “according to official reports from the relevant authorities, Iraq’s need for additional electric power at peak times ranges from 6-10 thousand megawatts in order to achieve an operating rate of up to 24 hours per day for the entire province,” noting. “The added energy to the production in the stations is what achieves stability in the electricity supply.”
Al-Khadran added, “The cost of production from 6-10 thousand megawatts amounts to 17 billion dollars, while the electrical linkage project with Saudi Arabia will push Iraq to pay 28 billion dollars, which is a waste of public money of up to 12 billion dollars,” stressing that “the purchase price of Electricity from Riyadh will reach one dollar and 27 cents, while its production in Iraq is only 27 cents.”
