The Ministry of Oil announced on Friday that the completion rate of the Shatt al-Basra gas pipeline project has reached its final stages.

“Work on the gas pipeline project extending from Khor al-Zubair port to the connection point in the Shatt al-Basra Regulator is progressing at a very advanced pace, and the completion rate has reached its final stages,” Montaser Kazim Haloub, director of the Southern Projects Authority, an affiliate of the Oil Projects Company, said in a statement received by Al-Maalouma Agency.

Haloub explained that “the project, which Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has dubbed the ‘Challenge Project,’ is not only due to its enormous size, but also to the tight timeframe for its implementation. The pipeline is 40 km long and 42 knots in diameter, and advanced stages were achieved in a period not exceeding 62 days.”

He pointed out that “the completion rate of the backfilling works reached 65%, while all welding and radiography works were completed at a rate of 100%, stressing that the commencement of the water inspection works will be completed before the scheduled date,” indicating that “the pipeline was designed to transport liquefied gas coming from the Khor Al-Zubair platform with a capacity of up to 800 cubic meters and an operating pressure of 70 bars, and it will soon be connected to the national gas pipeline with a diameter of 48 knots, and the connection process will begin before the first of next May.”

He continued, “This achievement is clear evidence of the competence of the Iraqi cadres leading the project in all its technical details, and confirms the possibility of implementing major projects in record time and with high quality.”
