MP Baqir al-Saadi confirmed on Friday that three production lines will soon enter service producing solar panels as part of Iraq’s clean energy transition strategy.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma, “Iraq’s strategy for transitioning to clean energy, referring to solar panels, has already begun with multiple tracks, but the most important of these is the imminent launch of three highly efficient solar panel production lines in the coming months.”
He added, “Local production of solar panels and other related materials will reduce costs by 30 to 40%, which will lead to lower prices, which will give greater impetus to their purchase by various segments.” He noted that “demand for purchasing solar systems and panels reached 20% during the first third of 2025, which is a good percentage, but it did not reach the level of ambition. However, with the entry of new lines and the increase in production, this will lead to a significant reduction in prices, which will provide greater flexibility in obtaining systems through which the effects of national power outages can be reduced.”
It’s worth noting that Iraq has already begun adopting a comprehensive strategy to transition to clean energy, particularly solar panels, due to their positive environmental impact and the potential to compensate for some of the energy loss during peak hours.
