URGENT : Iraq exempts 90 days to pay for Iranian electricity imports

The State Department has granted Iraq a 90-day exemption to enable it to continue to pay for its imports of electricity and natural gas from Iran, a State Department spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesman said that the State Department is working with Iraq to end its reliance on Iranian natural gas and increase its independence in the field of energy.
In November, the United States re-imposed sanctions on Iran’s energy exports over its nuclear program and its interference in the Middle East, but granted exemptions to a few buyers to meet the energy needs of consumers.
