On Saturday, Anbar Alliance member Abdullah Ahmed Al-Dulaimi revealed the mission of Trump’s envoy, Tom Barrack, to Baghdad and his insistence on the Al-Zaidi government’s approval of the terms and conditions of the visit.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the visit of US President’s envoy Tom Park to Baghdad urged the government of Ali al-Zaidi to close all border crossings between Iraq and Iran, sever relations, stop importing goods, and move towards establishing trade relations with the Gulf states, in addition to Iraq refraining from paying its debts to Iran in hard currency (dollars) and dealing only in Iraqi dinars, as well as closing Iraqi airspace to the movement of passengers and goods.”
He added that “the Trump administration asked the al-Zaidi government to participate in tightening the siege on Tehran by closing all border crossings and closing its airspace to passenger traffic and trade.”
He explained that “Trump’s envoy threatened the al-Zaidi government with dire consequences if it refused to implement the American orders,” confirming that “the al-Zaidi government secretly and unannouncedly agreed to what Barak presented, to be implemented gradually according to the timelines agreed upon by both parties.”
