The newly formed Sunni Parliamentary Front revealed, on Saturday, political action on the Shiite and Kurdish forces to correct the course of the political process in the country, pointing out that submitting a request to change the presidency of the Council requires collecting the signatures of 110 members of Parliament.
The front’s representative, Muhammad al-Khalidi, said, “The front that was formed yesterday, Friday, is in order to correct the legislative and oversight political process,” indicating that “there is a move by the front on the Shiite and Kurdish forces to correct the political process in the country.”

He added that “the bloc that was formed is not electoral, but rather is for correcting mistakes in the parliamentary session and the executive government,” stressing that “the number of members of the bloc amounted to 35 and is subject to increase.”

And Khalidi continued, “The House of Representatives has become dead and the legislative role of the Council must be corrected, especially after two years have passed since the first session of Parliament.”

He pointed out that “changing the parliament’s presidency requires collecting 110 signatures from deputies and submitting them to the Presidency of the Council to change one of the members of the Presidency, and this is done with the approval of 166 deputies during the session.”

For his part, an informed source indicated that the new Sunni alliance, which announced its formation last night, will hold an important meeting this evening with the Shiite political forces, to discuss several issues related to the internal and external political and security situation.

On Friday, five Sunni blocs and independent deputies announced the formation of a new bloc of 35 deputies.

The new bloc includes the “Salvation and Development Front, the Mass of the Masses, the Arab Project, the Islamic Party and the Independent Iraqi Bloc – as well as the contribution of independent representatives.”
