A senior official in the US Department of Defense [Pentagon] that a special US military unit of the [Navy Seal] carried out a landing operation against the gathering of the Islamic State in northwestern Syria in Idlib province, and a number of leaders of the organization, including its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The official, who asked not to be named at the Pentagon, said Baghdadi was killed after US intelligence services confirmed his position. He was immediately liquidated and his body captured.
