The parliamentary bloc of the Kurdistan Patriotic Union called on the political blocs to understand the position of the President of the Republic Barham Salih [the leader of the National Union] regarding the refusal of the building coalition candidate and not assigning him to the prime minister.
A statement by the bloc, which received a copy of the agency, “Aina”, “Our dear country and its honorable people live in a suffocating crisis, which puts it at the crossroads between saving the country and bringing it to safety and between slipping towards the abyss.”
He added that “the interactions and contradictions between the political blocs in determining the largest bloc and its multiple interpretations, and not agreeing on a candidate that the rising street and the political forces would accept, on the one hand, and the chaos and constant pressures from various sources on the other hand, confused the political scene more and more, which made the situation more complicated. The President of the Republic must choose a candidate to win the confidence of everyone in assuming the duties of the Prime Minister, which was not achieved during the times stipulated by the Iraqi constitution.
He pointed out that the matter “led to the President of the Republic sending a message to the President of the Iraqi Council of Representatives expressing his willingness to resign from his position before the members of the House of Representatives, confirming that the political and parliamentary movement must be expressive of the popular will and the requirements of security and social peace.”
The PUK bloc called on “all political blocs to understand the position of the President of the Republic and follow a policy of cooperation instead of a policy of pressure in order to reach a sound decision in choosing a figure that fits the stage and receives public and political acceptance.”
And she stressed, “The political forces must remedy the gravity of the situation and ask them to rely on logic and wisdom to contain the situation, give priority to the supreme national interest, rise to the level of aspirations of the people’s demands, constitutional legitimacy, and return stability to our dear country and its sacrificed people.”
The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, refused yesterday to assign the candidate of the parliamentary “Al-Bana” bloc, the governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, to head the government, saying that he was ready to submit his resignation to Parliament.
In a furious statement, the Construction Alliance attacked the President of the Republic for rejecting his candidate Al-Aidani and accused him of “resorting to the policy of killing time and sending messages to this party and that” calling “the House of Representatives to take legal measures against the President of the Republic to swear to the right and violate the constitution” in reference to his dismissal.
