Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi has refused to meet US President Donald Trump at the base of Ayn al-Assad in Anbar, an informed source said Thursday.
“Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi refused to meet US President Donald Trump at the base of Ain al-Asad in Anbar,” the source said, adding that “Abdul-Mahdi considered this to be contrary to diplomatic norms.”
The source, who asked not to be named, said that “Abdul-Mahdi told Trump that this action does not harm the interests of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries,” adding that “Trump, on his part, in a telephone conversation with Abdul Mahdi, expressed regret for the fear of his presidential team White House”.
“He promised to visit Iraq on another occasion,” he said, adding that “Trump sent an official invitation to Abdul Mahdi to visit the White House.”
The White House said Wednesday that US President Donald Trump had arrived in Iraq and that Trump had denied any plans to withdraw his troops from Iraq.
Meanwhile, the office of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said that US authorities had informed the Iraqi authorities of US President Donald Trump’s visit to Iraq, adding that Trump had invited Abdul Mahdi to visit Washington.
