Siemens reveals the details of the road map for Iraq’s electricity

{International: Euphrates News} The company “Siemens” German, the details of modernization of the electricity sector in Iraq, after signing a contract with the government to develop the electricity network in the country.
On Tuesday, German Electricity Minister Luay Khatib signed a “roadmap” agreement with Germany’s giant engineering and electronics giant, Geus Keizer, to re-establish a comprehensive energy sector.
“The deal represents a rescue for the Siemens power plant sector, which is experiencing difficulties due to the excess production capacity of gas turbines and the use of renewable energy sources,” the Deutsche Welle said in a report yesterday.
According to a spokesman in the German capital, it is expected to arrive from Berlin technology equipment for the project equipment in Iraq, where will be located a gas turbine center.
In the longer term, the roadmap signed between the Minister of Electricity and the President of Siemens includes the possibility of building new generating capacity, developing existing power plants and expanding electricity transmission networks.
“We are also committed to supporting Iraq in arranging project financing, creating attractive jobs and opportunities for small and medium enterprises,” Kaiser said in a statement.
Siemens has already signed three contracts worth $ 700 million, Siemens said.
The project includes the construction of a gas power plant to generate electricity by 500 megawatts in the city of Zubaidiya in Wasit province.
“The project also includes the award of contracts to upgrade 40 pieces of gas turbines with cooling systems and installation of 13 132 kV substations and 34 substations,” a spokesman said. “Construction work is expected to begin by the summer of next year.”
Details of the deal were being negotiated until the final moments before talks between Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Monday.
Under the deal, Siemens is pledging to build a medical clinic and donate $ 60 million worth of software to Iraqi universities and provide training for 1,000 Iraqis.
Besides the economic dimension, Germany is one of the countries that are trying to stabilize the situation in Iraq through loans for development projects.
