The Parliamentary Legal Committee revealed today, Friday, that there are three points of contention that are delaying the approval of the Federal Court law.
Member of the committee, MP Hassan Fadam, said, “There is a difference in concepts regarding the law between the political forces. The first dispute is: Who forms the Federal Court ?, As for the second disagreement, it concerns the voting mechanism inside the court, and how the decision is taken, whether it is by consensus or otherwise.” Pointing out that “the other topic of dispute is specific to Sharia and legal scholars, and will they vote or not?”
He added that “the legal committee is waiting for consensus between the components in order to put the law to a vote in the House of Representatives, and these three problems still exist.”
He pointed out that “the Federal Court Law contains two aspects. The first is that there is an amended Law No. 30 of 2005, and this law is from the previous parliamentary session. As for the second aspect, there is another draft law submitted by the Presidency of the Republic.”
