was the press release issued by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the political situation in Iraq after the commissioning of the director of the National Intelligence Service, Mustafa al-Kazimi, to form the government?
Pompeo said, according to the US State Department statement: “The United States is looking forward to forming a new Iraqi government capable of facing the Corona pandemic, bypassing the current economic distress the country is going through and confining arms to the state.”
“The main task of the new government must be to place Iraqi interests in the first place and meet the needs of the Iraqi people, and we welcome the unanimous consensus of Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish political leaders to form the government,” he added.
Pompeo noted that “the Iraqi people are calling for real reform and credible leaders. These demands deserve to be answered without violence or repression.”
“We stand with the Iraqi people in order to achieve this endeavor, and we look towards a sovereign, prosperous Iraq free from corruption and intimidation,” the US secretary of state said.
