Member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Burhan Sheikh Raouf, confirmed on Tuesday that there is no longer enough time to mature the dialogues regarding the oil and gas law, noting that the issue will be postponed to the government and the next parliamentary session, as successive governments have failed for about 20 years to legislate this important law.
Sheikh Raouf told Al-Maalouma, “Successive governments have not been able to legislate the oil and gas law, although this issue has been raised since 2005, but the will does not exist to resolve it.”
He added, “There are major problems in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region due to the failure to enact this important law that regulates the oil and gas file in the country, but political differences prevented that.”
He pointed out that “time is no longer sufficient for the dialogues on the oil and gas law to mature, especially since the parliamentary session is about to end and there are only a few months left until the end of the parliamentary session and the end of Al-Sudani’s term in power, and thus postponing it to the next government.”
