Member of Parliament, Bassem Khashan, confirmed, on Saturday, that setting a date for early elections is evidence of a lack of legal awareness.
Khashan said, “Kazemi is running an early election campaign by identifying with the protesters’ speech without proceeding with the implementation of his pledges, and revealing his efforts in this context when he said I do not have a support block in Parliament, which means that he seeks to convince the Iraqis that he needs a support bloc, and this is part. From the early election campaign. ”
He added, “Al-Kazemi’s talk about the lack of parliamentary cover seems to suggest that he is seeking to form a supportive parliamentary bloc,” noting that “this is just a preemptive justification for failure to implement his promises.”
He described setting a date for early elections as “evidence of a lack of legal awareness,” defining the requirements for holding elections as “legislating the law on electing an illegal parliament, and enacting the Federal Supreme Court law, which the constitution requires ratification of the election results to form parliament.”
He stressed that “parliamentary elections cannot be held without the legislation of the first law, and their results have no effect without the legislation of the second law,” expressing his concern about the inability to hold periodic elections on their constitutional date due to the suspension of the Federal Supreme Court.
He explained, “Iraq lives in a constitutional vacuum due to the vacancy of a seat of one of the members of the Federal Court, and all decisions issued after the resignation of this member are considered invalid because they came in a period of absence of oversight over laws.”
And Khashan stated, “Al-Kazemi knows the challenges surrounding before his assignment, whether it is related to confining weapons and confronting militias or what is related to fighting corruption,” stressing that his “presence in the position is to provide solutions and not to find justifications for failure to resolve these files.”
