The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday the formation of a new task force called “Iron Gate” to support the U.S. government’s efforts to prevent Iran from using land routes to transport advanced weapons and other sanctioned materials.
The command stated in a statement seen by Shafaq News Agency that its commander, Admiral Brad Cooper, directed the formation of the task force, which includes about 20 civilian and military personnel, and is based in Tampa, Florida.
She added that the new team will work in coordination with other U.S. government agencies to prevent the transfer of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies and sanctioned materials, as well as to curb illegal revenue flows across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.
According to the statement, Cooper said that “the creation of the Iron Gateway Task Force enhances the success of the strict naval blockade imposed on Iran,” adding that strengthening cooperation between Central Command and other U.S. government agencies will limit Tehran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish its military arsenal.
The Central Command noted that the US naval blockade has prevented Iran, in recent months, from exporting crude oil worth more than $25 billion, and confirmed that enforcement operations continue against all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.
Earlier today, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the U.S. State Department’s “Rewards for Justice” program is offering a reward of up to $20 million for information related to Iran’s nuclear program, with the possibility of providing safe passage for those who provide information.
